Will she ever be the same…
I watched as her tire grazed his and down she went. Last night, around 7pm, we were off for our nightly journey to the lake to let the kids jump off the diving board. We were traveling by bike (of course) at a pretty good rate of speed, on the side of the road due to no sidewalks on that section of Sheridan Rd, when I asked Raylee to get behind Cam and stop going so fast and trying to race him.
Well, being the obedient child that she is… she simple slowed a bit and turned her tire to fall in line, but she did not slow enough and her front tire touched his back tire sending the handlebars sharply left and out of her hands. Her bike jerked suddenly and there she went, in slow motion, flying over the front of her bike FACE FIRST onto the assault.
I have only seen crashes like that on crazy Sportcenter highlights from ESPN. I quickly road home, grabbed the truck and came to the scene of the crime… Jodi is still holding Raylee, and Camden is pacing saying “What happened?”. We through her bike in the back of the truck, I rode Jodi’s bike (a sight to see I tell you) and Camden and I rode back home while the Red Chevy turned Ambulance made its way to 635 N. Johnson St.
By the time Camden and I arrived, Jodi had Raylee pretty much cleaned up. So Camden and I just sat on the couch waiting to greet and hug the patient. But Camden could not sit still… “I wish there was just some way that I could serve Raylee… I know, she needs her blanket and monkey.” So up he ran, tripping up the stairs of course, grabbed the much needed comfort and gave it to her in the bathroom. A few seconds later he comes back to me saying again “I just wish I could serve sissy.” I tried to explain that right now she just needed space, but that we should keep our eyes and hearts open to ways we can serve her later. To this he responded, “what does heart open mean daddy.” After a quick explanation, he said, “But I just want to do something NOW!… I know, sissy loves water - Dad will you help me get her some water.”
After the water incident… Raylee comes down saying that she is ready to go to the park and swim - but wants to know if we can drive there instead. I told her, “today we will drive… but tomorrow you need to get back on the horse and ride.” She said, “I know daddy… but can we just drive tonight!”
